BLANCHESTER – A goal with 26 minutes left in the match Thursday helped Blanchester defeat Georgetown, 1-0, and end a six-match winless streak for the Ladycats.

The Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division win puts Blanchester at 2-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the division. BHS was 0-5-1 in its previous six matches.

Georgetown is now 3-3-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.

Sierra Drake netted the game-winner off a through-ball by teammate Emily Hinkle, BHS coach Kurt Ballinger said.

Ballinger said his back line of Olivia Gundler, Savanna Shank, Brianna Haun and Sally Schafer played well and “helped keep the quality chances to a minimum for Georgetown in the first half.

“Coming out of the (halftime) break, it became clear that the ‘Cats had found their attacking rhythm and Drake began to torment Georgetown down the left edge,” Ballinger said. “It was only a matter of time before she converted one.”

Ballinger said a “nervy last five minutes of the game” kept things interesting but BHS goalkeeper Regan Ostermeier was able to make several big saves to close out the victory.

Ostermeier finished her second shutout of the year with seven saves. Ballinger said Lana Roy played well in the midfield for BHS.
