East Clinton upsets Blanchester in SBAAC tennis

LEES CREEK – East Clinton upset Blanchester Tuesday in a Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division tennis match on the EC courts.

The loss puts league leader Blanchester at 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the National Division. East Clinton is 2-4 overall, 2-3 in the National, according to the SBAAC website.

“Credit goes to East Clinton,” BHS coach Matt Sexton said. “They played really well. If you keep getting yourself into trouble in a match, eventually the other team is going to be good enough to put you away and that’s what happened here.”

Blanchester’s lone win came at second doubles where Grace King and Kayla Allen were 6-0, 6-1 winners.

East Clinton swept the singles courts with Kylee Hidy, Shelby Michael and Sydney Michael posting wins. Haley Harrell and Bella Walters were winners at first doubles for EC.

Sexton commended the play of Lydia Falgner at third singles and her experience from the recent Coaches Classic event.

Blanchester now has a one-game lead over Clermont Northeastern, the Ladycats opponent on Wednesday.

“That is why the two-game lead in the division was important,” Sexton said. “Now the margin is narrowed. The best news is we get to come right back and play CNE, so we’d need to have short memories.”
