BATAVIA – Wilmington’s unbeaten streak reached three Tuesday with a 2-2 tie against Batavia in Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference American Division girls soccer action.

The deadlock puts the Lady Hurricane at 4-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the division.

Batavia is 6-0-3 overall and 4-0-2 in the American.

Both teams trail New Richmond who is 4-0-1 in the conference.

Wilmington trailed 2-0 early but rallied to gain the tie. All four goals were scored off set plays – one corner kick each and one set piece each, WHS coach Kerry Lewis said.

“Batavia controlled the majority of the possession,” said Lewis. “We continued to counter attack. The girls showed a lot of resolve and kept fighting back against as quality opponent. They never quit.”

After falling behind 2-0, Wilmington got on the scoreboard when Jordan Snarr “nailed the header,” Lewis said, to make it 2-1. Jasmine Jamiel assisted on the goal.

Early in the second half, Katlyn Jamiel was fouled at the top of the box, Lewis said, and then drilled the free kick inside the left post, upper 90 to even the score in the 52nd minute.

“Katlyn continues to play at a high level,” Lewis said. “She defends, distributes and scores. Katlyn works hard to make the players around her better.”
