Falcons put Knights to bed early in 52-6 rout

CINCINNATI – Nighty-night Knights.

It was lights out early for Cincinnati Northwest as Clinton-Massie built a 24-0 haltime lead and coasted to a 52-6 victory Friday.

Clinton-Massie built its halftime cushion on touchdowns by Weston Trampler, Christian Poynter and Luke Richardson, and a 37-yard Derick Carlisle field goal.

Trampler’s score capped a nine-play, 58-yard drive to open the game.

Carlisle split the uprights immediately following a penalty negated a Poynter TD and a fumble the Falcons recovered. The 14-play drive put Massie (5-0) up 10-0.

Poynter did cross the goal line 3:02 before the break to put the Knights (2-3) in a 17-0 hole.

A drive later. Corey Stulz found a wide-open Luke Richardson for the final score of the half.

Massie had a chance to extend its lead heading into the break, but Northwest blocked Carlisle’s 37-yard attempt to end the half.

A stingy CM defense contributed to the first-half shutout. Northwest penetrated Massie territory just twice, one of them because of a muffed punt.

Massie scored each time the starters had the ball in the second half, which included one set up by an electrifying Richardson interception. He fought going down and lost five yards before tossing the ball to Daulton Wolfe who reversed field and sprinted 68 yards to the Knights 7. Grant Rudy scored on the next play.

Northwest’s lone score came on a touchdown pass with 2:56 left in the game.

As on the scoreboard, the Falcons dominated the Knights statistically. Massie outgained Northwest 533 to 131. The Falcons rushed for 442 yards on 46 attempts while holding the Knights to 57 yards on 20 tries. Massie had 25 first downs to 10.

Cody Collingham led the Falcons with 145 yards rushing on 12 attempts. Poynter finished with 110 yards on 16 carries. Rudy went 6-53 and Daulton Wolfe had 52 yards on the ground. Stulz accounted for 47 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Garrett Trampler had four solos while Wolfe, Clayton Sheeley and Tanner Olberding had three each. Trey Uetrecht had two tackles for loss.

Richardson caught two passes for 91 yards.
