WILLIAMSBURG – Blanchester was unable to find the net Thursday in a 1-0 loss to Williamsburg in SBAAC National Division girls soccer action at WHS.

The teams played a scoreless first half. Blanchester coach Kurt Ballinger said Williamsburg was aggressive in its attack but the BHS defense stood tall. With Regan Ostermeier playing “a commanding game” in goal, Ballinger said, Blanchester played even with the National Division runnerup.

WHS maintained control of the game in the second half and created a dangerous chance midway through the period. Ballinger said the ball caromed off a BHS defender’s leg and behind Ostermeier for an own goal and 1-0 WHS lead.

“The Ladycats played selfless team defense throughout, although Olivia Gundler and Savana Shank stood out with repeatedly critical steals and recoveries,” said Ballinger.

Ostermeier finished the “intense” match, Ballinger said, with nine saves, including an “incredible” save in a one-on-one situation.

Blanchester is 5-8-2 overall and 3-5-2 in the division. Williamsburg is 11-4-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the National.
