BATAVIA – After netting the equalizer with five minutes to play, Wilmington gave up a goal with two minutes to go and lost to Batavia 3-2 Thursday night in SBAAC American Division boys soccer action at Holman Stadium.

After the teams played the first 72 minutes of the match at 1-1, there were three goals scored in the final eight minutes of the match.

“Tough outcome for our boys,” WHS head coach Imad El-Macharrafie said. “We played hard for 80 minutes but Batavia had a great surge in the final minutes which resulted in a goal for them.”

Sam Spirk and Brady Vilvens scored the WHS goals with Charley Schumacher and Spirk getting credit for assists.

Graham Vilvens made seven saves in goal.

“We had an injury to our senior midfielder Seth Gundlach, which I thought really took away from our timing and possession.”
