The Wilmington High School girls soccer team defeated Eaton 4-0 Monday night in their Division II sectional tournament opener at Alumni Field.

The Lady Hurricane back wall (Sophie Burt, Claire Greenlees, Suzannah Johns, Jenna Victor, Bradeanna Arehart, Ashley Tissot) as well as goalkeeper Karlie Morgan were unbreakable as they were able to complete their eighth shutout of the season. It is the sixth straight shutout for WHS.

The win will move the Lady Hurricane ahead in the tournament where they will host Madison 7 p.m. Thursday. This will be the first time Wilmington’s girls will host two tournament games in a row.

“We dominated the first half, but struggled to finish at goal,” WHS head coach Kerry Lewis said. “The girls did a much better job driving the ball low and hard in the second half.”

After having a scoreless first half, the Lady Hurricane took an 1-0 lead in the second half after a goal by senior Katlyn Jamiel in the 48th minute.

“Katlyn Jamiel continues to be our enforcer at center-mid. Katlyn established the tempo and helps us find our rhythm,” said Wilmington head coach Kerry Lewis.

The WHS girls scored again shortly after as a low pass from Jasmine Jamiel resulted in a goal by senior Ashlyn Carey in the 62nd making it a 2-0.

After a pass from Jasmine Jamiel, Paige Bryant played a perfect ball to Autumn Housh resulting in a third goal for the Lad Hurricane in the 68th minute.

“Striker Jasmine Jamiel played her best game of the year. She was spectacular. Jasmine literally did everything the coaches asked her to do,” said Lewis.

In the 76th minute, after dribbling down the sideline, Katlyn Jamiel made a pass to senior Anna Keiter who found the back of the net to conclude the scoring.

Wilmington is 7-1-2 in its last 10 matches and 9-5-3 on the year.

“The girls are playing their best soccer right now,” said Lewis.
