Bounce back: Falcons 44 Lions 14

ADAMS TOWNSHIP – Facing its second Southern Buckeye Conference heavyweight in as many weeks, Clinton-Massie delivered a first quarter knockout.

Everything came up Falcons in the opening period of Clinton-Massie’s 44-14 whitewashing of New Richmond Friday night at Frank M. Irelan Field.

With the win, Massie avoided back-to-back losses for the first time since the second and third weeks of the 2011 season.

It took less than two minutes for the Falcons (8-1, 3-1) to dent the scoreboard.

About four minutes later and after New Richmond (7-2, 3-1) tried to make chicken salad out of a high punt snap, the Falcons traversed 19 yards in six plays to go up 14-0.

In the next 83 seconds, NR had a punt snap go out the back of the end zone for a safety and Massie’s Luke Richardson took the first play after the free kick 49 yards to paydirt.

Three plays after CM took its 23-0 lead, Richardson picked off Josh Anderson at the CM 46 and lateralled at the NR 43 to Jeffrey Passarge who covered the rest of the space between there and the end zone.

Four plays later, New Richmond fumbled, setting up another Massie TD and 37-0 advantage early in the second quarter.

Massie would score again midway through the second quarter to take a 44-0 cushion into the break.

The Lions, who only ran three first-half plays in CM territory (an incomplete pass and two interceptions), finally scored on an Anderson 5-yd scamper around the end early in the final period.

They tacked on another score, a Mitchell Williamson 1-yd run, in the game’s waning moments.
