LEES CREEK – Jumping out to a 23-3 first quarter lead, the East Clinton Lady Astros made quick work of the Lady Cardinals from Felicity-Franklin on Saturday afternoon, 71-24.

The victory improves the Lady Astros to 5-2 overall, 4-1 in the National Division. The Lady Cardinals are now 1-7 overall, 0-5 in conference action.

“We are really executing well in our offensively sets right now and today everybody scored,” Craycraft said. “We are really distributing the ball well and taking good shots.”

Paige Lilly led the Lady Astro attack with 22 points.

Gracie McCarren added 10 while Kaitlyn Durbin and Kaitlyn Talbott had eight points each. Mackenzie Campbell added seven points for the Lady Astros.

“I was glad to see everybody in the scorebook and we played well on both ends of the floor,” said Craycraft. “We committed just 11 turnovers and our goal is no more than 12 as a team.”

While the final margin was impressive, Craycraft was not pleased with his team’s free throw shooting.

“The only thing which disappointed me was our free throw shooting, less than 48 percent,” he said. “If we don’t improve, it may cost us in a crucial game later on.”

The Lady Astros will face Bethel-Tate in a crucial match-up this evening.

“We really need this one, so hopefully we will be ready for them. We have made a lot of improvement and it’s been a while since East Clinton girls basketball had five wins this early in the season. But, we can’t let up on what we have done. We need to keep our momentum going, ” he said.
