ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Chillicothe arrived at Clinton-Massie’s Frank Irelan Field Friday having been the only South Central Ohio League team in the last seven years to come within two touchdowns of the Falcons.
Since Massie beat London 26-21 on Sept. 26, 2008, Chillicothe lost 17-7 at Frank Irelan Field in 2013 and dropped a 22-19 heartbreaker last year when Hunter Fentress and Bryce Boyd connected for the game-winning score with just seconds left.
This time, Massie made sure there was no doubt about the outcome. The Falcons (7-1, 5-0), the state’s ninth-ranked team in Division IV according to The Associated Press poll, doubled up the Cavaliers 42-21 for their 50th straight SCOL win.
Davey Tunon led the Falcons with 33 carries for 218 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 53 yards.
Chillicothe played catch up most of the evening after Massie jumped out to a 14-0 lead. The Cavaliers cut Massie’s lead to a touchdown on two occasions in the first half.
Weston Trampler’s pick six early in the second half pushed the Falcons’ lead to three touchdowns.
The Cavs trimmed Massie’s lead back to 14 midway through the final period.
But Massie sealed the game a drive that ate nearly six of the last seven minutes off the clock and ended with Tunon’s third TD.
The win sets up an SCOL showdown Friday night at Alumni Field with Wilmington. WHS and CM are both 5-0 in the league and 7-1 overall.
