LEES CREEK – Less than a week after losing to the Wildcats at the Blanchester Duals, the Clinton-Massie wrestling held off Blanchester Thursday to win the Clinton County Duals championship at East Clinton High School.

The Falcons raced out to a 27-10 lead on the strength of pins by Blake Seaman, Matt Asher, Bryson Mills and Ross Lennon, then they held off a hard-charging Blanchester squad for the five-point win.

Clinton-Massie coach Spencer Running said he felt much better about his squad on this night than he did following the 39-36 loss to Blanchester Saturday morning.

“Oh, yea, definitely,” he said. “Blanchester is a solid team. All four teams here today have good, quality wrestlers. That has a lot to do with the coaches in the county, who work their butts off.”

The only other non-forfeit win for the Falcons was recorded by Nathan Gibbs.

Blanchester victories were posted by Johnny Schirmer, Clayton Schirmer, Ramiro Torres and James Peters.

Wilmington defeated East Clinton 55-6 in the consolation match.

Non-forfeit wins by the Hurricane were Logan Cook, Dalton Garrison, Isaac Allen, Brady Bergefurd and Cameron Smart.

East Clinton lone win was by Austin Brock.

In the opening round of the tournament, Clinton-Massie defeated East Clinton 58-12.

Brock had the lone on the mat win for the Astros. Massie wins were by Gibbs, Robbie Frederick, Colton Doyle and Ross Lennon.

Blanchester was a 45-33 winner over Wilmington in the first round.

For the Wildcats, the Schirmer brothers, Kadin Berwanger, Torres, Steven Latchford, Peters, and Christian Stubbs posted wins.

Hurricane victories were by Smart, Sam Eastes, Dominic Davidson, Trent Holiday and Allen.

In the junior high school portion of the tournament, Clinton-Massie defeated Blanchester in the championship match.
