East Clinton 8th grade boys split with CNE, CM

The East Clinton eighth grade boys basketball team split games on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Thursday, East Clinton defeated Clermont Northeastern 54-41.

Jared Smith led EC with 17 points while Logan Swaney added 14.

Mitchell Bean scored eight points and Landon Runyon chipped in with six. Grant Stonewall contributed three points. Dustin Henderson and Chris Norman had two points each. Isaiah Curtis and Wesley Potts scored one point each.

Coach Brian Carey was pleased with the defensive effort of Curtis who held CNE’s best player to just two points.

“Every member of the team had a job and they executed it,” Carey said.

On Wednesday, the Astros were defeated by Clinton-Massie 31-17.

Smith finished with six points and Runyon tallied four. Bean, Curtis and Swaney had two points each. Norman tossed in a free throw.

“We struggled in the first half both offensively and defensively,” Carey said. “We did start to play better in the second half but it was wasn’t enough offensively.”
