ADRIAN, Mich. – The Wilmington College women’s lacrosse team was defeated by Adrian 17-3 Saturday night at Docking Stadium on the Adrian campus.

Wilmington had a difficult time possessing the ball and stopping the Bulldog attack. Adrian opened with three goals in the first nine minutes. Wilmington answered with back-to-back goals to close the gap to 3-2. The Quaker goals came from Rachel Reinhart and Becca Petra. On the Reinhart goal, Hannah Gratsch had an assist.

The Bulldogs went on a 5-0 scoring run to end the first half and secured an 8-2 lead. Adrian scored the first six goals of the second half.

Wilmington committed 19 turnovers in the first half. The Fightin’ Quakers were able to limit those turnovers in the second half, but the Bulldog defense was stifling.

Wilmington’s offense was led by Petra with two goals on four shots along with Reinhart with one goal on one shot. Defensively, Kara Griffith, Katie Hill and Kelly Angevine were able to pick up three ground balls each. Goalie Megan Wieloch had 15 saves.

Wilmington (1-4) will travel to Hiram College Wednesday for a 7 p.m. start.
