PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. – Lindsey Carter drove in the winning run in the second game and had five hits and five RBI in the first game as Clinton-Massie swept a softball doubleheader Wednesday here on a spring break trip.

The Lady Falcons (6-1 on the year) defeated Harlan Co. (Ky.) 14-5 in the first game and Holy Name 5-4 in the second game.

In the first game, Carter had four singles and a homerun and combined with Natalie Lay for seven hits, two homers, five runs scored and nine runs batted in in the 2-3 spots in the batting order.

In the second game, Massie rallied from a 4-0 deficit with two runs in the sixth inning and three in the bottom of the seventh.

“This was a game that showed how we can handle the pressure,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “We had struggled with our bats pretty much the whole game. I was very pleased with how we handled the pressure to pull out the win. This was a huge win for us. Holy Name is a good team and is also D2 from Ohio. They will win a lot games this year.”

Carter pitched the first four inning against Holy Name then came back to pitch the seventh after Taylor Florea took the mound for two innings.

“That was a great effort by Lindsey and Taylor,” Lauer said. “It was a great effort by the whole team.”

In the sixth, trailing 4-0, Massie cut the difference in half on Kelsey Carter’s two-run homer. In the seventh, Kendall Anderson tripled and Ashlie Miller walked and stole second. They came home to tie the game on Lindsey Amberger’s triple. Kelsey Carter walked and stole second.

Rather than putting Lindsey Carter on base as a meaningless runner, Holy Name pitched to the her and she came through with a groundout that plated the winning run.
