Mount Union sweeps Wilmington in OAC softball

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College softball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday to Mount Union, 9-2 and 8-5.

Beth Persicano had three strikeouts and a walk while allowing 13 hits in 4.2 innings for Wilmington. Mariyah Burkhardt had two walks while allowing two hits in 2.1 innings for the Quakers.

Allison Pierce had two hits while KenDahl Bowles had two RBIs for WC.

In the second game, Jillia Cook gave WC a 1-0 lead when she drove in Alecia Kemp in the fourth. Wilmington went up 3-1 when Ali Dixon knocked in Sawyer Hooper and Megan Crager scored on a passed ball.

Mount Union took a 4-3 lead but Crager, who tripled, scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning.

Wilmington went down 8-4 in the ninth. Burkhardt singled in Pierce to make it 8-5 but the Quakers threat ended with teh bases loaded.

Grace Shell took the pitching loss. She had seven strikeouts and three walks, while allowing 11 hits in 8.1 innings for the Quakers.

Jillia Cook led the way with three hits for the Quakers offensively. Crager, Dixon, Burkhardt, and Sawyer Hooper all had two hits each for Wilmington.

Wilmington falls to 11-15 overall and 4-12 in the OAC. Mount Union improves to 13-19 overall and 6-10 in the OAC.
