Wilmington resident Hazel Young finished her junior year soccer season at Landmark Christian in exciting fashion by winning the National Homeschool Soccer Championship Division I tournament.

Young’s high school varsity team, the Landmark Christian Lady Eagles, won their seventh straight title at the NHSC in Fort Wayne, Ind. Oct. 30-31. The team is coached by Rusty Young (Wilmington), Dan Woody (Milford), Harrison Wang (Huber Heights), and Gary Grafe (Cincinnati) and is comprised of girls from southwest Ohio.

At the NHSC, Landmark played teams from Alabama, Indiana and Tennessee. Teams from Ohio, Kentucky and Minnesota also participated in the tournament. The girls had 4 shutout victories and outscored their opponents 19-0.

Young, a second-year starter and defensive anchor at sweeper had 5 assists and a goal in the tournament, all from corner kicks and all goals were headers by her teammates. Her goal came directly from a corner kick that she bent into the far corner of the net.

“Hazel has always had good corner kicks but this year she spent some time honing her skills and really working on placement along with bending (curving) the ball. The hard work paid off in the tournament,” said head coach Rusty Young

The Landmark team also won the National Christian School Athletic Association Great Lakes Classic held in Beaver Falls, Pa. in September.

Landmark is graduating 14 seniors this year and is always looking for homeschooled girls to join the their reserve and varsity teams. Anyone interested should contact coach Young at [email protected].
