EBER — Wilmington’s high-powered offense generated 49 points in the first half en route to an 81-47 victory Tuesday night against Miami Trace in South Central Ohio League action at the Panther Pit.

Wilmington remains unbeaten overall at 4-0, while the Panthers fall to 1-2 on the season, 1-1 in SCOL action.

Jarron Cumberland led the Hurricane offensive attack with 29 points in just over three quarters of play. Matt Creditt was deadly beyond the 3-point arc, draining 5 3-pointers in the first half, enabling the ‘Cane to take a commanding lead at the intermission, 49-25.

“We tried to limit the touches by Cumberland and Creditt was just unstoppable, knocking down those 3s,” said Panthers head coach Rob Pittser. “Plus, we made crucial turnovers in their scoring area and they capitalized, putting us in a deep hole.”

For the game, Miami Trace committed 19 turnovers, which Wilmington converted into 24 points.

In a losing cause, Blake Pittser had 11 points for the Panthers while Deandre Pettiford added 10 points.

“We took another positive step forward tonight,” said WHS head coach Mike Noszka. “We’re striving to become more consistent and the energy level is certainly there. Right now, several players are getting a lot of valuable playing time for us. Offensively, we were pleased with our effort and Matt (Creditt) shot it well from the outside.”

Creditt finished the game with 17 points, while Chris Wolary was a force on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds as Wilmington won the battle of the boards, 38-31.

Wilmington travels to East Clinton facing the Astros on Friday night in SCOL action. The Astros are now led by former long-time WHS assistant coach Tony Berlin, who also graduated from Wilmington High School.

Miami Trace also goes on the road in SCOL action Friday night at Hillsboro.
