Rockets launch offense on BHS

OWENSVILLE — After being held to just 26 points in a loss to Williamsburg Friday night, the Clermont Northeastern Rockets had an offensive explosion Tuesday, beating Blanchester 66-61.

The outcome was decided in the fourth quarter. Blanchester led 50-48 after a Harbor Lovin basket with 3:50 remaining.

Clermont Northeastern scored the next 8 points. David Smith tied it at 50. Two free throws by Chris Coleman, followed by field goals by Damian Mitchell and Nick Ernst, gave CNE a 56-50 lead with 2:25 left.

Blanchester had some opportunities to stay in the game. Trailing by 5, Quenton Miller appeared to score, but the basket was waived off on offensive basket interference when it was ruled JD Wiederhold touched it in the cylinder.

Blanchester trailed 60-52 when Dylan Miller hit a 3 with 53 seconds remaining. After 2 missed Coleman free throws, Lovin was fouled with Blanchester trailing 60-55 with 43.2 remaining.

Lovin missed the free throw, and CNE missed very few free throws the rest of the way. The Rockets made 6 of its final 8 free throws to ice the game.

Nick Ernst had a huge game for CNE, scoring 27 points on 7 of 11 shooting. He also made 12 of 13 from the free throw line.

Coleman added 14 points for CNE, including 6 of 11 from the line. CNE outscored Blanchester at the free throw line 22-8.

Alec Richardson and Dylan Miller led Blanchester with 15 points each.

Blanchester played a better defensive second half, holding CNE to just 35 percent from the floor after the Rockets shot 44 percent in the first half.

However, the Rockets were able to second chances and get to the line. CNE shot 23 free throws in the second half to just 7 for Blanchester.
