The East Clinton 8th grade boys basketball team has started its season with a 1-3 record.
The most recent game was the team’s lone victory, a 51-44 triumph over county rival Clinton-Massie. Matthew Mitchell led East Clinton with 24 points while Jacob Howard added 10.
The Astros maintained their margin by connecting on 8 of 10 at the free throw line in the 4th quarter, coach Nathan Powell said.
East Clinton was defeated by Lynchburg 37-30 on Wednesday. Mitchell tallied 13 points in the loss.
On Dec. 7, East Clinton lost to Washington 54-40 as Howard led the way with 12 points.
On Nov. 30, the Astros opened their season with a 42-25 loss to Fairfield. Colton Vadnais had 10 points for East Clinton.
