Big innings doom WC softball in DH losses

The Wilmington College softball team was held to six hits in a pair losses to Muskingum in Ohio Athletic Conference games Wednesday at the WC Softball Complex.

Muskingum did all its damage in the final two innings, scoring four runs in the fourth and 10 in the fifth en route to a 14-0 win.

Sophomore Courtney Mackey (Wooster, OH/Northwestern) tallied Wilmington’s only hit of the game.

Sophomore Becca Carpenter, 2-8, (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) was saddled with the loss. She allowed four runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. She finished with three strikeouts.

The Muskies blew open a close game with a 12-run fifth inning and won 14-2.

Mackey doubled in the third inning to score freshman Taylor Hill (New Concord, OH/John Glenn), who opened the inning with a walk. The run tied the game at one.

Muskingum regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning before putting the game away in the fifth.

Senior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) added an RBI single in the fifth.

Sophomore Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington), sophomore Whitney Edwards (Frankfort, KY/Franklin County) and freshman Kennedy Metz (Russia, OH/Russia) all had hits.

Sophomore Beth Persicano, 1-2, (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits in four innings.

Wilmington (8-16 overall, 0-10 OAC) hosts Baldwin Wallace 1 p.m. Saturday.
