AUSTINTOWN – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its weekly football awards today and a Wilmington College senior won an award.

For the second time in his career, linebacker Nick Williams (Cleveland, OH/Fairview) earned Defensive Player of the Week.

“It is always a great honor to be selected as an OAC Player of the Week considering how tough this conference is,” said Wilmington head coach Stacey Hairston. “Nick Williams being named defensive player of the week is his reward for working so hard. Nick is a special player on game day. He is very competitive and he is a hard-nosed, physical player. Each and every Saturday, he flies around on the football field from start to finish With all of the great players in the OAC, I am very happy that Nick got recognized for his play against Bluffton.”

Williams led Wilmington with 12 tackles, five solo, as the Fightin’ Quakers snapped a 23-game losing streak with a 14-10 victory over Bluffton. He added 1.5 tackles for loss, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry.

Wilmington (1-0) has a bye this week and returns to the gridiron 7 p.m. Sept. 19 when Capital visits Townsend Field.
