Briggs earns academic honor at Morehead

Colt Briggs, a 2013 graduate of Wilmington High School, earned first-team Academic All-District II honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Briggs is a sophomore defensive lineman at Morehead State University.

One of the highest academic accolades in collegiate athletics, the national program features athletes with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and is voted on by CoSIDA members. By being a first-team selection, Briggs will go on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Briggs has a 3.70 GPA in biomedical sciences. He was the Wilmington News Journal Clinton County Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award winner in 2013.

On the field, Briggs has accumulated 41 total tackles in 2015, including a team-best eight in the backfield. Briggs has started all nine games for the Eagles.

Briggs was redshirted his first year at Morehead, then had 22 tackles in 12 games last season. He was a member of the Pioneer Football League academic honor roll in 2013 and 2014.

He earned All-Fort Ancient Valley Conference and All-Southwest Ohio Conference honors while at Wilmington. He played football, basketball and baseball at WHS.
