AUSTINTOWN – Wilmington College junior Erik Spraul has been named Ohio Athletic Conference Male Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Nov. 7, the league announced.

Spraul, a graduate of Cincinnati Princeton High School, won three individual events and one relay as Wilmington defeated Wittenberg and Transylvania in a double-dual meet Saturday. It was Wilmington’s first win over Wittenberg in program history.

“Preparing for our double dual meet against Wittenberg and Transylvania, I knew that the team was going to have to have some big swims, especially Erik,” said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. “He had to swim two events basically back to back, the 100 (butter)fly and the 200 individual medley. He really had to battle in both events. He ended up winning both of those events, the 50 free(style) and was part of our winning medley relay. It was an outstanding individual effort and a big part of our team’s success. I am really happy for Erik. He deserves the OAC Swimmer of the Week honor.”

He won the 100 butterfly (1:01.58) and after a 10-minute break returned to claim the individual medley (2:17.51). Spraul added an individual win in the 50 freestyle (25.16). He teamed with David Hawk, David Spraul and Cody Nash to win the 200 medley relay (1:52.73).

This is the second OAC weekly award in Spraul’s career.

Wilmington travels to Hiram 1 p.m. Saturday for another non-conference dual meet.
