Wilmington College overcame 30 turnovers Friday night en route to a 61-59 win over Mount St. Joseph in the Damons/Hampton Inn Tipoff Classic at Fred Raizk Arena.
Brittaney Jefferson led the charge for the Fightin’ Quakers, scoring 21 points on 7 of 12 shooting. She made 4 of 6 beyond the arc and also contributed six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Mackenzie Campbell had 13 points, 10 rebounds and two steals.
The WC women held a decided advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Lions 56-37.
The difference in the game came in the turnover department. While WC committed 30 miscues, the Lions scored just 21 points. Wilmington turned 21 MSJ turnovers in 17 points, so the difference wasn’t as bad as it could have been for WC.
Wilmington led by as many as 15 points in the first half. Mount St Joseph never led in the game but made things tight throughout the second half.
Franklin upset No. 19 DePauw in the other first-day game, 57-55.
Wilmington will meet Franklin at 3 p.m. in the tournament championship game.
DePauw will meet Mount St. Joseph at 1 p.m. Both games will be played at Fred Raizk Arena.
