Bengals receiver A.J. Green gets 4-year contract extension

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals agreed to a four-year contract extension with receiver A.J. Green before they left for season opener in Oakland.

Green was under contract through this season. His new deal runs through the 2019 season.

Getting their top receiver under a long-term contract was the Bengals’ last challenge before they began the season, looking to reach the playoffs for the fifth year in a row. They haven’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season, the sixth-longest streak of futility in NFL history.

Green was the Bengals’ first-round pick in 2011 — quarterback Andy Dalton was chosen in the second round — and has reached the Pro Bowl each of his four seasons.
