Roberts swinging hot bat for Paints

Wilmington High School graduate Chad Roberts is hitting .280 for the Chillicothe Paints baseball team.

The Paints, 34-22 this season but 19-9 in the second half of the season, are a member of the Collegiate Wood Bat Prospect League. They play in the East Division.

Roberts had a career-high 4-hit game July 29 against Butler. He had a career-high five runs batted in as the Paints picked up the 9-3 win.

The Paints play at Chillicothe’s VA Memorial Stadium Wednesday and Thursday this week. First pitch for both games is 7:05 p.m.

Roberts started out on fire with the Paints, collecting five hits in his first eight at-bats. He had a season-best nine-game hitting streak that in mid-season that pushed his average to .311.

However, he slumped a bit and dropped to .254.

Since then, though, the 2014 WHS grad is 20-for-60 for the surging Paints.

For the year, Roberts is 52 for 186 in 50 games. He leads Chillicothe with 26 runs batted in. He has scored 18 runs while hitting six doubles and two triples. He has walked 17 times while striking out 27 times. Roberts has two stolen bases. He has a .338 on-base percentage.

At Marshall, 19-31 this past season, Roberts played in 24 games with 10 starts his freshman season. He had just 53 at-bats but collected 17 hits and finished with a .321 batting average. He had three doubles, a homer and drove in seven runs. Roberts hit .318 in 22 at-bats against Conference USA teams.
