CANTON – Coming off back-to-back winless seasons, it wasn’t a surprise that the Wilmington College football team was picked to finish 10th in the Ohio Athletic Conference by both coaches and media in attendance at the 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Media Day at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Tuesday.

“They kind of go off previous year’s results, no matter what you say you have coming in,” said Wilmington head coach Stacey Hairston. “It doesn’t matter where anybody else thinks we are; it comes down to where we think we are. Although our wins and losses don’t show it, we have made tremendous improvements from the team I took over. This year we are going to take the next step in our rebuilding and it doesn’t matter what the polls say.”

The Fightin’ Quakers return 14 starters, eight on defense, from it 2014 team. Junior running back Chase Manica (Shelbyville, Ky.) and senior linebacker Nick Williams (Cleveland) return after earning All-OAC honors in 2014.

Senior Tarrell Starckey (Richmond, Va.), who was an All-OAC linebacker in 2013, also returns – but will be moving to defensive back.

Wilmington opens the 2015 season on Sept. 5, hosting the Bluffton Beavers in its lone non-conference game.
