‘Morning of Hope’ with David Ring at Immanuel

Nationally known speaker David Ring will be speaking Sunday morning, Aug.16 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Wilmington. The service will focus on how to emerge victorious rather than victimized in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

Born in 1953, Ring was deprived of oxygen for 18 minutes at birth, leaving him with cerebral palsy. Orphaned at the age of 14 after both parents died of cancer, he was cast from family to family with nowhere to call home. He endured constant physical pain, humiliating public ridicule and constant discouragement. Yet he chose to be victorious rather than a victim.

After surrendering his heart and life to Jesus Christ, he learned self-respect and acceptance of his physical challenges. To most, physical challenges of this magnitude would prove to be a tombstone.

Entrance to the event is free; a love offering will be taken. Arrive early as seats will fill up quickly, with doors to open at 10:35 a.m. For more information contact the church office at 937-382-2932. Immanuel Baptist Church is located at 550 Virginia Circle, Wilmington.

The concert will be followed by an Ice Cream social out on the lawn of the church. The public is invited to attend. Bring the kids and grandkids and your neighbor’s kids to enjoy an evening of fun, music and good old-fashioned fellowship. There is no charge for the program or food. Come rain or shine!

All ages will enjoy this light-hearted musical featuring a cool cast of puppets ready to entertain you. You will recognize the songs but the words are changed to reflect the Gospel message. “This is our fourth year for the puppeteers and it is becoming quite a tradition at the church,” said Pastor Dan Mayo. “We are pleased to have this summer edition of the puppet ministry and we know the whole family will enjoy the evening. Our cast, under the leadership of George and Marilyn Fenner, is now an experienced crew and it shows in the quality of performance.”

‘Virtuous’ film, Lynch at New Vienna UMC

New Vienna United Methodist Church will be screening a new faith-based family-friendly film, “Virtuous”, on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. In addition, former U.S. Army Pfc. and POW Jessica Lynch, who stars in the film, will be onsite to speak and sign autographs.

“Virtuous” is a multi-plot feature-length motion picture that highlights 10 unique ladies of different ages, backgrounds and life experiences. As today’s generation of women are vastly diverse, so are the various stories in this film. One such story loosely depicts that of Pfc. Lynch, who makes her acting debut. At age 19 in 2003 she became the first-ever rescued female POW/MIA.

There is no cost to attend this screening; however, an offering will be taken during the event. All ages are welcome. New Vienna UMC is located at 11576 SR 28 West, New Vienna.
