CINCINNATI — Wilmington’s Allison Brooks won the Flight D first singles championship Saturday at the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association Classic at Country Day High School.

Brooks, now 20-1 on the year, played in her first three-set match of the year and came out on top 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 against Emily Kabalin of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.

Brooks was runnerup last year in the Flight D first singles bracket.

“Allison played great,” said WHS coach Doug Cooper. “She cruised through the first set, then Kabalin finally adjusted her game to slow Allison down, but it was just not enough. Allison settled down to finish off the match with poise and confidence. It was one of her best performances ever.”

Mai Cooper finished third in the second singles bracket, defeating Anya Kirsch of Wyoming.

“This was, by far, our best showing at the GCTCA in my four years of coaching, maybe the best ever for Wilmington girls tennis,” Cooper said. “We racked up 155 team points and finished behind Lakota East and St. Ursula. We look at the GCTCA as a measuring stick. The best teams in Cincinnati are there and it is an event teams look forward to. We had a great tournament; we competed very well on all courts.”
