Bomb threat at elementary

WILMINGTON — A bomb threat was called into Roy E. Holmes Elementary School on Friday morning, according to Wilmington Police Chief Duane Weyand.

Immediately after the call, Wilmington City Schools began its bomb threat procedures and the school was evacuated, he said.

Students of Holmes Elementary School were taken to the nearby Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, where parents could then pick them up, Weyand said.

After the children evacuated the school, it was put on lockdown and searched, Weyand said.

A school in West Chester, in Butler County, also received a bomb threat at the same time as Holmes Elementary School, Weyand said.

The Wilmington Police Department and police in Butler County both worked with Cincinnati Bell to trace the phone calls, he said.

Holmes Elementary School was “very cooperative” with getting all students out safely and quickly, Weyand said. The WPD has also had “great cooperation” with Cincinnati Bell in working together to trace the phone that the threat was made from, he said.

The investigation will continue into the weekend.

According to the Hamilton (Ohio) Journal News website, police in Dayton and Bellbrook responded to several school bomb threats Friday, including Meadowdale High School in Dayton Public Schools, Bell Creek Intermediate School, and in West Chester Township at Endeavor Elementary within the Lakota Local Schools.
