ADAMS TOWNSHIP — A strong second half allowed Wilmington to pull away from Clinton-Massie for a 6-2 South Central Ohio League boys soccer victory Tuesday at Frank Irelan Field.

The win puts the Hurricane at 7-1-1 in the league and 8-2-1 overall.

“Down to only two substitutes and a few new personnel, our boys played extremely well in the rainfall,” said WHS coach Imad El-Macharrafie. “Clinton Massie is a good team and showed us 80 minutes of soccer. When you have a group of guys that show up game after game with the conviction to win, it feels good to watch them succeed. All 13 players contributed to this win and we could not have done it with out them.”

Wilmington led 2-0 at halftime.

“Wilmington is a good team with some very good players,” said CM coach Matt Johannes. “The second half Wilmington came out strong. The guys played flat starting the second half, but the last 15 minutes of the game they started pressing forward. We started working together as a team, moving the ball and were rewarded with two goals.”

Clinton-Massie goals were scored by Cade James and Alex Hudson.

“I really hope the guys saw what working together can achieve,” said Johannes.

Sam Spirk had another three goal hat-trick for Wilmington while Charlie Schumacher, Avery Greenlees and Nate Lakes had one goal each. Schumacher also had three assists while Seth Gundlach, Graham Vilvens and Brady Henry had one assist each.
