Firefighters train for flashover

Free training, courtesy of the Ohio Fire Academy and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, was offered Aug. 11 through 13 to local firefighters. It was held at the Wilmington Safety Center site (formerly Wilmington Fire Station 2) on Rombach Avenue. Participating firefighters learned to recognize the conditions for a flashover — defined as a rapid full-room involvement in flame — and also learned when, for firefighter safety, they need to get out of a building due to a flashover, said Wilmington Fire Department Lt. Ed Myers. The fire departments or districts represented at the training were Blanchester-Marion Township Fire District, the SRWW Joint Fire District 2 and EMS, the Wilmington Fire Department and EMS, Chester Township Fire and EMS, Clinton Highland Fire District and EMS, and the Martinsville Fire Department. A trailer facility provided a venue to gain hands-on experience with the flashover phenomenon.
