Louisville’s offensive production against Syracuse was the most prodigious of any Bowl Subdivision team in three years.

The Lamar Jackson-led Cardinals amassed 845 yards on Friday, the most since Baylor piled up 872 against West Virginia in 2013.

Louisville’s average of 754 yards through two games is well ahead of Texas Tech’s 685 on the national total offense chart.

Jackson set an Atlantic Coast Conference record for total offense with 610 yards in the 62-28 win over Syracuse. The sophomore quarterback broke Chris Redman’s school record of 578 against East Carolina in 1998.

Jackson is the nation’s third-leading rusher at 159 yards a game, is ninth in passing yards at 348.5 and responsible for a nation-leading 78 points. Only Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes, at 562 yards a game, averages more than Jackson’s 507.5 in total offense.

Some more notable statistics:

ON THE RUN

San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey turned in the best rushing performance through the first two weeks with his career-high 281 yards in a win over California. Pumphrey also broke Marshall Faulk’s school career rushing record of 4,589 yards. Pumphrey now has 4,651. Two other running backs went over 200 yards this past weekend, with Vanderbilt’s Ralph Webb going for 211 against Middle Tennessee and Oregon’s Royce Freeman running for 207 against Virginia.

TACKLE MACHINE

New Mexico State linebacker Rodney Butler’s 24 tackles in a win over New Mexico are the national season high. On one series in the second quarter, Butler was credited with tackles on eight of 10 plays, including six in a row. The last time a player made more tackles in a game was October 2012, when Nevada’s Albert Rosette was credited with 25 against Air Force.

COMPLETIONS GALORE

Luke Falk, the triggerman of Mike Leach’s “Air Raid” offense at Washington State, is back in his familiar spot atop the single-game completion chart. The junior completed a career-high 55 passes, on 71 attempts, in a loss at Boise State. In 2015, Falk had the top three games for completions and six of the top 11.

BALL-HAWKING BUCKEYES

Ohio State is tied with Nebraska for the national lead with seven interceptions and a plus-3.5 turnover margin. The Buckeyes have ran back three of their interceptions for touchdowns and Nebraska one.

The Buckeyes’ Malik Hooker picked off his third pass of the season against Tulsa, running it back 26 yards for a touchdown, and Marshon Lattimore took one back 40 yards.

Nebraska picked off five passes against Wyoming, with Kieron Williams returning one 23 yards for a score.

FUMBLE FOLLIES

Virginia Tech already has lost nine fumbles through two games, with Jerod Evans responsible for three of them. Last season, the Hokies lost a total of seven fumbles in 13 games.
