FAIRFIELD — The Blanchester tennis team is fourth after the first day of the Southwest Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Coaches Classic tournament at Fairfield High School.

Blanchester’s Alexis Vestal and Korie White advanced to the championship match of the second doubles bracket. They blanked Toerner and Dawson of Harrison 6-0, 6-0 in the first round then defeated Drew and Rolfer of Taylor 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals.

“I am really proud of the way second doubles has played this week,” BHS coach Matt Sexton said. “They had all the pressure at CNE Tuesday and played well and they played very well today in two wins. They’re starting to figure out how to put it all together, which should give them confidence going into their senior year.”

Their opponent in the title match has yet to be determined. Several matches were stopped because of darkness. Play will resume in all matches 8 a.m. Saturday at FHS.

In the team standings, Taylor leads with 190 and is followed by Harrison 145, Little Miami 130, Blanchester 115, Colerain 70 and Fenwick 50.

Brooke Honaker, the BHS No. 1 player, earned a first-round bye and will face Williams of Harrison Saturday in the first singles semifinal round.

At second singles, Emily Speakman defeated Mayes of Colerain 6-0, 6-2 in the first round but was bumped into the back draw with a 6-2, 7-5 loss to Mauldin of Harrison. She will face Griggs of Little Miami in the back draw semifinals.

At third singles, Megan Weber was defeated by Bermas of Colerain 6-3, 6-0 in the first round. She trails Berry of Harrison 5-2 in the semifinals of the back draw.

In the first doubles bracket, Erin Wilson and Lilly Tedrick posted a 6-0, 6-4 win over Ott and Graff of Colerain but then lost to Davis and Noyes of Little Miami 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 in the semifinals. In the back draw, the BHS pair trails Brooks and Schramm of Fenwick 3-2.

Sexton said Speakman and the first doubles pairing simply ran into “strong second round opponents” but all three played well.
