WC women fall to OAC-leader ONU 2-0

ADA – The Wilmington College women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to league-leading Ohio Northern Tuesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Kerschner Stadium.

“I thought we played a good first half,” said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. “We had a chance on a corner kick cleared off the line that would have given us a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, we made a mistake with three minutes to go and their player turned and hit a shot from 40 yards out over the keeper’s head. That seemed to take a little wind out of our sails.”

Ohio Northern took the 1-0 lead into halftime with a goal in the 42nd minute. It was the culmination of an offense attack that managed 13 of its 20 shots in the first half. Meanwhile, Wilmington was limited to just two shots in the opening 45 minutes and six total.

The Polar Bears doubled its lead less than 10 minutes into the second half.

Freshman Haley Brausch recorded two of WC’s six shots, including one of the two shots on goal. Junior Stephanie Randolph had the other shot on goal.

Junior Ana Hosler made five saves on seven shots in 90 minutes of action.

Wilmington (5-5-4 overall, 0-4-2 OAC) plays its final home game of the season 7 p.m. Saturday against Mount Union.
