Fun evening to benefit WAHS

WILMINGTON — Area residents are invited to the Reverse Raffle and Dinner to benefit the Wilmington Area Humane Society (WAHS).

Hosted by the Fraternal Order of Eagles at 141 E. Sugartree St., Wilmington, the event is Saturday, Feb. 25 from 6-10 p.m. It will feature music by Who’s Ya’ Daddy, food and multiple raffles. WAHS — a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization — is hoping you’ll come out and support the animals while having a great time.

The featured raffle is the Reverse Raffle with a jackpot of up to $2,000. If you’re unfamiliar with a reverse raffle, it’s set up so that instead of winning the “big” prize with the first ticket drawn, you want to have your ticket drawn last. In addition, every 25th ticket drawn wins $100. A 50/50 drawing and various other raffles will run through the evening.

Local businesses and individuals are generously donating a number of gifts including overnight stays at area hotels and motels, meals at area restaurants, oil changes, wine, a quilt, membership in a fitness center, movie passes, stained glass class, gift baskets as well as gift cards that can be used for many wonderful services and items.

Last year marked the first year for the Reverse Raffle and Dinner and it was a great success, raising over $4,000.

Kathy Collins, Chair of last year’s as well as this year’s event, said, “It was a great evening — an opportunity to see old friends and make new ones. People came away feeling good about supporting such a worthwhile event and some had great success winning gift certificates or even the Reverse Raffle itself.”

The Reverse Raffle and dinner cost is a $25 minimum donation, which includes one Reverse Raffle ticket entry and dinner. Only 250 tickets will be sold for the Reverse Raffle (need not be present to win). Payment may be made at D&G’s Paws and Claws Snack Shack, 5356 US 68 North, Wilmington; check payable to WAHS, memo Reverse Raffle and mailed to WAHS, P.O. Box 968, Wilmington, OH 45177 or by PayPal, memo Reverse Raffle. Non-ticket holders are welcome to make a $10 donation at the door for dinner and night’s events.

WAHS is an all-volunteer non-profit formed to promote the welfare of dogs and cats in Clinton County and to provide programs to the residents of this area to nurture and strengthen the human/animal bond.

Created in 2002, WAHS takes in and cares for cats and dogs. After a vet check, immunizations and if over, 12 weeks of age, spayed or neutered, the pets are placed for adoption. WAHS has about 45 active volunteers and just a few months ago opened their new shelter at 5312 US 68 North, Wilmington.

The funds raised from the Reverse Raffle and dinner will be used for the homeless pets in WAHS’ care.
