WILMINGTON — Wilmington College’s Dr. Paul Moke will present on the American Friends Service Committee as this semester’s second program in WC’s Campus Ministry Quaker Lecture Series at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 in the T. Canby Jones Meetinghouse.

Moke, professor of political science and criminal justice, will speak on “Quakers in the Coalfields: Clarence Pickett and the American Friends Service Committee, 1920-1950.”

Pickett served as executive secretary of AFSC and implemented relief programs for unemployed miners and their families in Appalachia during the Great Depression. Working in partnership with Eleanor Roosevelt, he also designed industrial rehabilitation and homesteading programs to improve conditions in coal camps.
