Harveysburg Helpers in action

CLARKSVILLE — It has now been 13 years since sisters Patty Johnson and Pam Cox began quietly making a difference in the lives of students at Clinton-Massie Local Schools, with their twice-a-year visits bearing beverages and snacks to share with the district nursing staff to better equip them to help students.

It all began in 2004 when former high school secretary Jennifer Grove noticed school nurse Cindy Stenger purchasing cases of Gatorade, water, and miscellaneous snacks in order to stock the shelves that would go on to help meet the situational and medical needs of some of Massie’s students.

Reaching out to members of her church congregation, Grove called upon the Harveysburg Community Helpers Club and requested their support. Since then, Johnson and Cox have faithfully delivered care packages of much needed and appreciated supplies to each of the Massie school buildings.

According to Stenger, the generosity of the Harveysburg Community Helpers allows the district to nurture and care for students in ways not always known by the public.

In addition to the donation of beverages and snacks, other community members have quietly donated items of clothing that are also shared when needed. Some of the more special clothing items bear the Clinton-Massie insignia and Falcon mascot, thus, fostering a stronger sense of belonging in the school community.
