Pending approval of the East Clinton Board of Education, Joey Schulte will be the next varsity baseball coach at East Clinton High School.

Athletic director Brian Carey, the former baseball coach, said Schulte will be recommended to the board at the June 14 regular meeting.

“Joey has a phenomenal resume and baseball IQ,” said Carey, who relinquished baseball duties when he was hired as the athletic director. “We believe he can take EC baseball to the next level.”

Schulte played varsity baseball at Wilmington High School. He was first team All-Fort Ancient Valley Conference as a senior and earned honorable mention to the All-Cincinnati team. He was second team All-FAVC as a junior.

He followed his WHS career by playing at Georgetown College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. His playing career was cut short his sophomore year due to a brain injury. When he stopped playing, Schulte began coaching, Carey said in a press release.

Schulte coached with the Cincinnati Bulldogs, the Miami Valley Prospects, Wittenberg University and Urbana University. Carey said when Urbana permanently shut down due to the pandemic, Schulte turned his attention to making a positive difference in the community he grew up in.

“I promise you that I will develop quality baseball players and outstanding young men of character and integrity,” said Schulte who along with his wife Kelly has two children, Cal and Isabelle. “East Clinton is investing in being a powerhouse athletic program. I am thrilled to contribute to that mission.”
