Ohio jobless claims up 2.2K for week

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans filed 14,724 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 2,243 more than the previous week. Approximately 4,221 of those have been flagged for more stringent identity verification, to ensure they are not fraudulent, according to a news release Thursday from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Ohioans filed 35,077 continued traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 67 more than the previous week.

The total number of traditional claims filed July 3-9 was 49,801.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in May was 3.9%, while the national unemployment rate in May was 3.6%.

Ohio’s labor force participation rate in May was 62.0%. The national labor force participation rate in May was 62.3%.
