WILMINGTON — Authorities are looking for details about a suspicious person who allegedly took a photo of a child as she was getting off a school bus Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday morning, the Wilmington Police Department (WPD) took a report from a mother who lives in the Country Oaks subdivision about the incident, according to a Facebook post from the WPD.

“The mother reported that on Tuesday, she was getting her daughter off the school bus in the afternoon. She advised that a white male was parked in a burgundy-colored van in the neighborhood,” the post states.

The mother reported that the male subject, who was wearing a black suit, exited his vehicle and “took a picture of her daughter.”

The male subject re-entered his van and left the scene after the mother “yelled for her daughter to come to her,” according to the report.

According to the post and report, the mother was unable to provide a license plate number from the subject’s vehicle.

The post indicates that all WPD officers have been made aware of the situation and that police have been in contact with the Wilmington City Schools Superintendent regarding the incident.

“We are also aware of some false facts/rumors that have been spread on social media regarding this incident. We ask anyone, especially those who reside in the Country Oaks subdivision, to call us immediately if they happen to see a vehicle matching that description or any other suspicious activity. The sooner we are provided the information, the quicker we can respond to investigate,” the post states.
