ADAMS TOWNSHIP — With a wild fourth quarter offensive outburst from both teams, Clinton-Massie held on to defeated Batavia 64-60 in a thriller at Brian P. Mudd Court on Senior Night.
The American Division win puts the Falcons 8-13 overall, 3-7 in the division. The Bulldogs drop to 4-16, 1-9.
Cale Wilson scored 22 and Jerry Trout had 20 for the Falcons. Both players came off the bench as head coach Steven Graves started four of the five seniors.
Conner McElfresh of Batavia also scored 22 points.
Clinton-Massie led 37-35 after three quarters. The two teams then combined for 52 points in the fourth quarter.
Wilson had 10 in the fourth and Trout added nine. Clinton-Massie was 15 for 22 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter alone.
The teams went back and forth in the final period before Massie put together a 7-0 run to grab a 47-39 lead. McElfresh drained a pair of threes and the Bulldogs were right back in it. The Falcons put together another 7-2 run to lead 54-47. McElfresh again answered to get Batavia within two.
But Trout came up clutch at the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win for the Falcons.
Senior Miles Theetge, Owen Trick, Matt Zimmerman and Connor Stulz started. Keegan Lamb, another senior, was not dressed for the game. The teams hooked up in a defensive battle in the opening period with the game tied at 8-8.
The Falcons and Bulldogs went toe to toe in the second before Trout beat the halftime buzzer for a 26-24 Massie lead.
Batavia’s Jess Roller banged a three for the opening score of the third and Theetge countered with a fast-break lay in. Much like the second, the third quarter was marked with great defense and not too much offense. Another Trout three tied the game at 33. Massie led at the end of three, 37-35, to set-up a thrilling fourth quarter.
