WILMINGTON — Dirk Morgan, Vice President of Morgan’s Canoe and Outdoor Adventures, will present “Preservation of Our World: Bees & Other Pollinators” at Wilmington Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17.

Free milkweed seeds, which attract butterflies, will be passed out at the program. The library is partnering with Clinton County Master Gardeners to bring this program to Wilmington.

Dirk is an active volunteer for Friends of the Little Miami State Park. He and his wife, Lori, are building on the conservation legacy that his parents started over 50 years ago. His parents were instrumental in making the Little Miami River the first National Scenic River in Ohio.

Dirk’s motto is “Preservation through utilization” which means; in order for people to preserve their world resources, they need to experience them.

Dirk has had his own beehives for the past 10 years. Five years ago, he began a program of creating pollinator gardens with schools. In 2018, he began raising and releasing Monarch butterflies. He promotes the idea of creating pollinator gardens along the Little Miami River corridor.

In April 2018, Dirk and Lori rescued two bee colonies comprising over 50,000 bees, and donated them to the Cincinnati Zoo for educational purposes.
