Rotarian cycles the nation

WILMINGTON — Rick and Linda Stanforth set out for an adventure in the spring of 2018 — Rick was on a bicycle and Linda was driving the support vehicle.

The trip started in San Diego and finished in St. Augustine, Florida. With a set of good maps and a great deal of technology the adventure went very smooth. They typically camped every night and stayed in hotel usually one night a week.

The daily routine was very rewarding after a career of multitasking. The daily challenge was to simply push on the pedals and do the miles — as Rick calls it, “The Grind.” It was very rewarding for Rick to be living a dream and sharing it with Linda.

The highlights of the ride include bicycle safety and being very aware of your surroundings. Next were the people they met during the adventure; he said they were just amazing. Seeing the country at an average of 16 mph gives you a whole new perspective of the beauty and diversity.

But, most important was the inner peace they received from this challenge.

Rick and Linda would like to challenge others to go and listen to those sounds and see our country. As pointed out through his presentation “Now, get on your bicycle and seek out that long stretch of road — it will teach you much about yourself.”
