Tom Barr, Editor of the Wilmington News Journal, recently spoke to the Wilmington Rotary Club which meets at noon at Damon’s Restaurant.

Barr previously was over large weekly newspapers based in Lebanon and Mason covering Warren and Butler counties.

He stated that he has been with the News Journal for nearly five years. The paper is owned by AIM Media, which owns newspapers in Indiana, Ohio, Texas and West Virginia.

Barr is proud of the newspaper plus e-edition/website they are able to put out Tuesday through Saturday. He stated that the newsroom has three full-time employees (besides himself): Mark Huber, Gary Huffenberger and John Hamilton, all natives of Clinton County.

Barr said weekly and daily newspapers continue to be important to small towns and the their surrounding areas.

Barr told stories about his life as an editor, including 25 years ago when Barr was an unofficial “representative” for astronaut Neil Armstrong when he worked at the Lebanon paper. Barr said he was “still not able” to get an interview, however.
