Simon Kenton High School Class of 1959 celebrated their 60th class reunion on Sept. 14 at the home of Judy Hawk Stewart and Chuck Von Bergen with a delicious evening dinner.

GG Walker and Jim Demery provided super karaoke for enjoyable entertainment. Each of them sang solos and others sang, too.

The following eight classmates and their guests attended: Don M. Henry and friend, Fran, Wilmington; Larry and Carole Fisher, Suwanee, Ga.; Noel and Verlene Heston, Hillsboro; Rita Georges and Nick Estell, Beverly Lindsey Kidder, Sabina; Faye Huff Wiget and brother Stanley Huff, Winchester; Jo Anne Hartman and Don Lindsey, Wilmington; Judy Hawk Stewart and Chuck Von Bergen, Barbara Morris (widow of Bob Morris) Sabina; GG Walker and Jim Demery, Hillsboro; and Charlie Smith.

The following 12 classmates were unable to attend due to illness and or to the travel distance involved; Dorothy Swisshelm Christensen, Alexandria, Va.; Linda Mitchell Dunaway, Charlotte, Tenn.; Linda Woodmansee Jackson, South Pasadena, Ca..; Marcia Milner Johnson, Westerville, Ohio; Gladys (Corky) Runk Rumer, Winder, Ga..; and locals: Howard Arnold, Connie (Allen) Cassidy and Linda Bernard Barton (last address Washington CH); Jim Thompson, Leesburg; Bob Baker and Larry Goodman, Sabina; and Janie Regan Daniels , Wilmington.

The evening was filled with lots of reminiscing of special high school memories and events. Our senior class play was “Archie Andrews” directed by Mrs. Helen Milner (high school music teacher). Additional memories consisted of the 1950 huge snow, various pranks at Halloween and after class play practices, our class parties at various homes, our county proms held at the Wilmington College gym,and our basketball and baseball teams(boys only). However, there were no organized teams for girls — otherwise, Faye Huff Wiget would have been a star athlete.

Many thanks to our hostess and host, Judy Hawk Stewart and Chuck VonBergen for all the delicious food they prepared and their warm hospitality.

The following 14 deceased classmates were recognized with fond memories: Carolyn Bullen, Walter Bowermaster, George Thompson, Mary Kay Ellis Parks, Janice Edwards, Eugene Cox, Robert (Bob) Morris, Gladys Davis Garen, Jim McKenzie, Doris Swisshelm, Don Pinkerton, Bill Bennington and Dana Roberts.

The group enjoyed looking at old school pictures, copies of “The Quill”, our school newspaper, and also the lovely booklet that John and sister, Margaret Myers recently prepared and published, “Wayne and Simon Kenton”.

The group decided it is necessary to start having yearly get-togethers since the years are passing by so quickly. Faye Huff Wiget offered to have our next get together next spring at their home in Winchester. The date will be announced later.

The following classmates and guests met again on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Max and Erma’s restaurant at noon to continue their 60th celebration: Judy Hawk Stewart and Chuck Von Bergen; Don M. Henry and friend, Fran; Larry and Carole Fisher; Rita and Nick Estell, and Don and Jo Anne Lindsey. Classmates continued sharing special stories and memories.

A collection was taken for the flower fund to be used by Beverly Lindsey Kidder for ordering flowers in the event of funerals regarding our class members and their families.
