WILMINGTON — Denver Place Elementary School greeted more than 100 Denver alumni and guests Friday night at its Alumni Chili Supper and Open House.

In addition to a wide selection of delicious chili, alumni and guests visited several displays that outlined plans for the future Denver Arboretum project, offered a wide selection a Hurricane spirit wear, and presented an interactive demonstration showing the effects of water erosion.

Guests also toured the building and the future location of the outdoor learning-lab classroom.

Alumni and guests from the community also generously donated over $2000 that will be used to construct the arboretum.

Intervention Specialist Katie Bell took the title for the best chili with fifth-grade teacher Andrew Lefevre’s jalapenos chili coming in a close second.
