Honoring ‘Father of Honor Flight Reunion’

WILMINGTON — The “Father of the Clinton County Honor Flight Reunion” has been called Home by the Supreme Commander of us all. William M. “Bill” Carter died Thursday, June 4.

Bill was a proud member of the first Clinton County Honor Flight team. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He asked members of the reunion committee: “When is the next reunion?” as he departed the first one. He loved being with the other Honor Flight participants and sharing memories and experiences. When friends would visit him, you could count on talking about Honor Flight.

A combined total of 135 local veterans and many volunteers were part of the two Clinton County Honor Flights, the first in September 2016 and the second in April 2017.

All the 135 Honor Flight veterans who are still with us and are able to attend are invited to his visitation at 1 p.m. and funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12 at the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church, 160 N. South St. Masks and social distancing are encouraged due to COVID-19.

Let us all answer Bill’s question: June 12, 2020 is the next Reunion. Bill will be buried in his Honor Flight t-shirt. Those attending are encouraged to wear theirs.
