Streamkeepers: Lytle Creek quality improving

0

For more than a decade, two Clinton Streamkeepers members have been monitoring four county streams. Anderson Fork, Todd’s Fork and Cowan Creek continue to test Very Good or Excellent.

Lytle Creek has historically tested Poor — but in recent years is improving. From 2008 to 2015, Lytle tested Poor. From 2016 to 2017, it tested Fair. Since 2018, it has tested Good.

The Lytle sample site is at the pet cemetery within Sugar Grove Cemetery.

The method used to determine the stream condition is by counting various species of macro invertebrates, which are rated by their tolerance to pollution. The results are recorded on a form provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Local businesses, industry and residents are to be applauded for their contributions to properly dispose of pollutant materials.
