DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A federal criminal complaint says an Ohio postal worker was recorded on video stealing numerous items from packages and stuffing them into her sweatpants.

The Dayton Daily News reports Springfield mail processing clerk Leanna Heskett recently was indicted in Dayton on more than 20 counts of delay or destruction of mail.

An investigation began after medication disappeared from a Veterans Affairs package.

A special agent from the postal service’s Office of the Inspector General says Heskett denied the thefts last August. A day later, managers reported that she had called other workers and admitted stealing from packages.

Heskett’s appointed public defender, Thomas Anderson, said Thursday that he didn’t yet have details on the case and is awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled next Thursday.

Heskett remains free.
